We are pleased to announce that the WINS International Best Practice Workshop on “Communicating Nuclear Security Information” will be preceded by a special briefing from the Nuclear Threat Initiative (NTI) on the '2012 NTI Nuclear Materials Security Index: Building a Framework for Assurance, Accountability and Action'.

Both events will take place in Wolke 19, Ares Tower (Donau-City-Strasse 11, 1220 Vienna) on 7 / 8th February 2012.

Enhancing the Security of High-Activity Radioactive Sources

We are pleased to announce the organisation of an interactive Best Practice Workshop on Enhancing the Security of High-Activity Radioactive Sources. The Workshop will raise awareness of the need for effective security for high activity radioactive sources. This will build upon the good practices and experiences of radioactive source users and other security practitioners in Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand.

The workshop will take place in
Bohol, the Philippines, 16-17 January 2012.

Roundtable on a Business Framework for Improved Governance of Nuclear Security

WINS is pleased to have held an international roundtable that brought together global leaders in government, insurance, economics, maritime security, cyber security, and nuclear liability, safety and security to explore the potential use of market incentives to influence corporate risk governance within the nuclear industry. This roundtable event took place on the 19th of December at the Imperial Hotel in Vienna, Austria.

Workshop on Human Reliability in Nuclear Security

WINS is pleased to have held an interactive INMM/WINS workshop for security professionals, facility operators, nuclear scientists and engineers, human resources managers, IT specialists, psychologists and other relevant practitioners from the nuclear industry and other critical infrastructures.

The two-day workshop was held at the Castle Green Hotel in Cumbria, UK, on 6th and 7th December 2011.

Workshop on Advanced Technologies for Nuclear/Radioactive Inventory Management & Transport Security

WINS, the Korea Institute of Nuclear Nonproliferation and Control (KINAC) and the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defence for Nuclear, Chemical and Biological Defense Programs (OASD (NCB)) are pleased to have organised a Best Practice Workshop on Advanced Technologies for Nuclear /  Radioactive Inventory Management and Transport Security.

The workshop was held in Seoul, Republic of Korea, on the 21st and 22nd of November 2011.

Lessons Emerging from the Fukushima Daiichi Incident

Time for an Integrated Approach to Nuclear Risk Management, Governance and Safety/Security/Emergency Arrangements

The World Institute for Nuclear Security (WINS) hosted a one-day roundtable discussion focused on the early lessons emerging from the Fukushima tragedy that took place in Japan in March 2011. The roundtable, which was co-hosted by Serco, was held in London on the 12th May at the Royal United Services Institute for Defence and Security Studies (RUSI). As a result of this roundtable, WINS has produced a paper setting out the priorities for nuclear security which will contribute to the international debate on what needs to change to improve the management and oversight of nuclear operations.
