Market Mechanisms to Improve Security in the Commercial Nuclear Power Sector
The
Use of Market Mechanisms to Improve Security in the Commercial Nuclear Power
Sector
This paper has
been developed from ideas that were discussed at a one-day roundtable hosted by
the World Institute for Nuclear Security (WINS) in Vienna, Austria, on 19
December 2011. This roundtable brought together global leaders in risk
management, economics, nuclear liability, insurance and other critical
infrastructure industries to begin an important, ongoing dialogue on this
issue. The paper examines whether insurance is or could become a market
mechanism to help establish a business case for improving nuclear security.

Lessons Emerging from the Fukushima Daiichi Incident
Time for an Integrated Approach to Nuclear Risk Management, Governance and
Safety/Security/Emergency Arrangements
The World
Institute for Nuclear Security (WINS) hosted a one-day roundtable discussion
focused on the early lessons emerging from the Fukushima tragedy that took
place in Japan in March 2011. The roundtable, which was co-hosted by Serco, was
held in London on the 12th May at the Royal United Services
Institute for Defence and Security Studies (RUSI). As a result of this roundtable, WINS has produced a paper setting out the priorities for nuclear security which will contribute
to the
international debate on what needs to change to improve the management and
oversight of nuclear operations.
