Radioactive sources are used around the globe and are essential for many medical, industrial, and research applications. A very large workforce is responsible for the safe and secure management of these sources.
To protect and secure radioactive sources, organisations rely upon people who are trustworthy and reliable in order to provide assurance that the radioactive sources are being appropriately managed and to mitigate the risk that an insider (a person with authority, access or information) could be responsible for an incident, whether due to negligence or malicious intention.
The responsibility for and process of assessing trustworthiness and reliability during pre-employment, employment and post-employment processes is the focus of this online workshop. These processes are part of a set of preventive measures that are necessary to reduce the risk arising from insider threats.
Insider threats are particularly dangerous because they can use their access, authority and knowledge to bypass dedicated physical protection, safety measures and operating procedures. They also might have more time to select targets, identify vulnerabilities, and plan and carry out a malicious act. For example, they could tamper with security equipment to reduce the risk of detection or falsify inventory records to steal small amounts of radioactive material over a long period without being detected.
This workshop is an opportunity for various stakeholders to exchange experience and lessons learned about developing and implementing trustworthiness and reliability assessments in the contemporary workplace. The online workshop will:
This workshop is open to an online global audience. It's designed for professionals responsible for trustworthiness and reliability assessments in the context of radioactive source security management, including regulators, operators, security services, law enforcement and behavioural and technological experts with a perspective on contemporary challenges.
Young professionals and female practitioners are strongly encouraged to apply.

This online event is interactive and facilitated by an expert practitioner. The event will include a number of presentations as well as case studies and opportunities for the audience to share their perspectives through voting and Q&A sessions.
