WINS Receives ISO 9001 Certification

ISO 9001 certification demonstrates our commitment to quality, accountability and continuous improvement in the promotion of best nuclear security practices worldwide.

We are pleased to announce that WINS has received ISO 9001 certification after a months-long process that involved careful analysis of all of our business processes. Our goal in pursuing certification was to better understand and meet the needs of our members while demonstrating commitment to quality, accountability and continuous improvement in carrying out our mission.

The term ISO stands for International Organization for Standardization. ISO 9001 is designed to help organisations ensure that their quality management system (QMS) and processes meet the needs of their customers and other stakeholders. Certification, which must be renewed at regular intervals, means that an independent registrar has audited an organisation’s QMS and certified that it meets ISO 9001 requirements.

According to Dr. Roger Howsley, WINS’ Executive Director, “WINS exists to share best practices for nuclear security management and therefore has to set its own high standards for operations and services. The ISO award is testimony to our professional attitude and focus on service.”

To achieve certification, we developed a written QMS manual that describes our management commitment and responsibilities; explains how we carry out our major activities, including our publishing programme (Best Practice Guides, white papers and reports), international workshops and member website; documents how we administer our membership; and details how our internal quality and continual improvement processes are monitored. To read the manual, see WINS’ Quality Management System.
