GICNT 10th Anniversary Meeting

In 2016, the Global Initiative to Combat Nuclear Terrorism (GICNT) will celebrate its tenth anniversary, demonstrating both its durability as an international institution and its contributions to the field of nuclear security.

To commemorate this milestone, the Netherlands, as the Implementation and Assessment Group Coordinator, will host a one-and-a-half day GICNT 10th Anniversary Meeting (GAM) in The Hague (MFA Conference Centre) on 15- 16 June 2016.

The GICNT’s strength is the collaborative approach it actively promotes and the strong partnerships forged through the sharing of experience, best practices, problem solving and joint sense of purpose. Created in 2006 by the Russian Federation and the United States, the GICNT has grown to include 86 partner nations and five official observer organisations. The GICNT has held over 75 multilateral activities in support of its Statement of Principles; launched three technical working groups based on key focus areas in nuclear detection, nuclear forensics, and response and mitigation; and developed several guidance documents and additional resources for partner nation use in enhancing core nuclear security capabilities.

The anniversary conference will include a retrospective session and a forward looking part, featuring the role of the GICNT in addressing anticipated nuclear security challenges over the next decade (2016-2026).

The event will be attended by representatives from partner nationals, as well as GICNT technical and policy experts.
