WINS Shows its Commitment to Breaking the Gender Bias by Participating in IWD Campaign

In honour of International Women’s Day (IWD), WINS participated in this year’s IWD campaign through our various social media platforms to demonstrate how we are working to break the bias.

According to the IWD’s website, “Imagine a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes and discrimination. A world that’s diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. Together we can forge women’s equality. Collectively we can all #BreakTheBias.”

To mark the day on 8 March, WINS released a video about how we plan to break the gender bias – this year’s theme for IWD – in nuclear security.

In the lead up to 8 March, we made a series of social media cards featuring members of the WINS staff and how they think WINS is breaking the bias in nuclear security.

According to our campaign, here are some ways that WINS is working to #BreakTheBias:

  • Offering online events in several languages
  • Giving a voice to everyone
  • Encouraging the professional development and certification of women in nuclear security
  • Promoting gender parity in all our events
  • Providing a diverse, equitable and inclusive forum on nuclear security to a wide range of stakeholders
  • Advocating for more women learners to be enrolled in the Academy
  • Achieving 40% female representation in all its projects and programmes
  • Choosing female subject matter experts
  • Adopting a zero-tolerance policy toward discrimination and harassment.

Our social media cards dedicated to IWD – which were promoted on Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram and Twitter – can be easily accessed and viewed on our official Instagram account.

Furthermore, in February, WINS’ Executive Director, Lars van Dassen, became an IWD influencer and was featured on the official IWD webpage. To read his statement in its entirety, click here.
