WINS y Women in Nuclear ARCAL han acordado establecer una cooperación estratégica para promover nuestros intereses comunes en materia de seguridad física nuclear e igualdad de género en el uso de tecnologías nucleares.
“Promover una participación plena y equitativa de las mujeres en áreas relacionadas con las ciencias y tecnologías nucleares se resaltó como objetivo prioritario para la región en Agenda ARCAL 2030,” declaró Viviana Moreno, WINS Senior Project Officer, que lo firmó en nombre de la organización. “Esperamos ampliar nuestros objetivos comunes a través de la cooperación y el intercambio de conocimientos.”
“La firma de este Memorando de Entendimiento reafirma el compromiso de WINS y WiN ARCAL de fortalecer la seguridad física nuclear en Latinoamérica y el Caribe, potenciando el liderazgo técnico de las mujeres,” comentó WINS ARCAL Presidenta Angela Abadia. “A través de la cooperación estratégica, este MdE busca responder eficazmente a las necesidades específicas de la región en esta materia.”
Las dos organizaciones trabajarán juntas para fortalecer la capacidad técnica y promover la igualdad de género en la seguridad física nuclear en América Latina y el Caribe a través de una variedad de actividades tales como:
• Desarrollo de un directorio regional de mujeres expertas
• Implementación de programas de mentoría técnica y profesional
• Elaboración conjunta de documentos técnicos y materiales de referencia
• Fortalecimiento de capacidades en áreas de interés de la seguridad nuclear, concretamente ciberseguridad en instalaciones nucleares y radiológicas, seguridad en el transporte de materiales nucleares y radiactivos, y preparación y respuesta a emergencias
• Apoyo al desarrollo profesional continuo
• Intercambio de expertas y buenas prácticas
“Materiales nucleares y radiactivos apoyan el bienestar humano y la calidad de vida en la región de América Latina y el Caribe a través de su uso en la agricultura, la atención médica y la producción de energía,” comentó WINS Director Ejecutivo Lars van Dassen. “Los beneficios solo se pueden obtener mientras estos materiales se mantengan seguros, y esta cooperación nos ayudará a desarrollar capacidad local en las áreas más críticas.”
Las dos organizaciones anunciarán planes para eventos conjuntos; actividades colaborativas de investigación, estudios y publicaciones; intercambio de personal, expertas, información y materiales técnicos; y servicios de evaluación comparativa y análisis técnico.

“Promoting the full and equal participation of women in areas related to nuclear science and technology was highlighted as a priority for the region in Agenda ARCAL 2030,” said Viviana Moreno, WINS Senior Project Manager, who signed on behalf of the organisation. “We look forward to amplifying our shared goals through cooperation and knowledge sharing.”
“Signing this memorandum of understanding reaffirms the commitment of WINS and WiN ARCAL to strengthen nuclear security in Latin America and the Caribbean, enhancing the technical leadership of women,” said WINS ARCAL President Angela Abadia. “The strategic cooperation outlined in this MoU aims to respond effectively to the specific needs of the region in this area.”
The two organisations will work together to strengthen technical capacity and promote gender equality in nuclear security in Latin America and the Caribbean through a variety of activities such as:
- Developing a regional directory of female subject matter experts
- Implementing technical and professional mentoring programmes
- Collaborating on technical documents a reference material
- Capacity building in critical areas in nuclear security, specifically cybersecurity, transport security, and emergency preparation and response
- Supporting ongoing professional development
- Exchanging experts and best practices
“Nuclear and radioactive materials support human well-being and quality of life in the Latin American and Caribbean region through their use in agriculture, healthcare and energy production,” said WINS Executive Director Lars van Dassen. “The benefits can only be realised as long as these materials are kept secure, and this cooperation with help us to build local capacity in the most critical areas.”
The two organisations will be announcing plans for joint events; collaboration on research, studies and publications; the exchange of personnel, experts, information and technical material; and benchmarking and evaluations services and technical analysis.
