WINS’ Executive Director Renews Commitments for IGC to Break Down Gender Barriers

We’re thrilled to announce WINS’ Executive Director, Mr Lars van Dassen has a new set of commitments in 2022 for International Gender Champions (IGC). IGC is a leadership network that has more than 300 Champions to break down gender barriers.

This is Mr van Dassen’s second year serving as an International Gender Champion. Candidates who want to become a Champion must support the IGC Panel Parity Pledge as well as the IGC Gender-based Violence Pledge.

Mr van Dassen’s personal commitments for 2022 include the following:

1.) For WINS, language matters! In 2022, WINS is committed to adopting inclusive language in all its events, announcements, communications and publications.

2.) Breaking the 20% glass ceiling. In 2022, WINS is committed to achieving 40% representation of women in all its projects and programmes.

According to Mr van Dassen, “The contribution of women to the security of nuclear and other radioactive material, is profound. However, barriers to their full participation remain in place. I will use all of our programmes to ensure that these barriers are brought down, one by one, so together we achieve gender equality, not in the long term but in the short term. It is only when we ensure diversity in the context of nuclear security that we get a full and good view of the many angles of what is risky and what it is we need to protect. In short, gender parity makes nuclear security better!”
