WINS briefings at the Nuclear Politics Study Programme

The Nuclear Politics Study Programme (NPSP), a project sponsored by the Austrian Students’ Union (Gefördertes Sonderprojekt der Österreichischen HochschülerInnenschaft), was created in January 2014. For its first edition last year, the NPSP brought together 34 students and more than 20 technical experts, diplomats and academics from the broad field of nuclear politics. The one-week agenda included lectures, panel discussions and visits to leading international (non) governmental organizations based in Vienna, Austria. Students from 11 countries (Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, El Salvador, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Serbia, Switzerland and The Philippines) participated and debated controversial topics including weapons proliferation and modernisation, nuclear disarmament, nuclear security and safety, and nuclear energy research.

Late 2014, WINS gave a briefing to the students of the NPSP. The briefings aimed to introduce the student-led group to WINS’ mission and operational activities aiming to share best nuclear security practices and foster professional development for nuclear security professionals, through workshops, the publication of Best Practice Guides, and the WINS Academy.
