Workshop on autonomous and remotely operated systems: Benefits and challenges to nuclear security

Background

Registration closed on 8 February 2023.

Governments around the world are considering nuclear energy as an effective technology to mitigate climate change and decarbonise the economy. Nuclear energy is seen as an opportunity to make a feasible energy transition in combination with renewable energy. There is a significant increase of countries considering the construction of new nuclear power plants and a wide range of countries evaluating the expansion of their nuclear power programmes. In the same way, extensive progress has been made in the development of new technologies such advanced modular reactors including microreactors, which may play a main role in energy accessibility in certain regions of the world. Considering the current nuclear landscape, young professionals are game changers who will play an important role as future leaders, decision makers, policy implementers, workforce, and nuclear operators in the evolving and challenging nuclear and energy sector. At the same time, the nuclear workforce is gradually being replaced as many staff reach retirement.
