Research reactors are nuclear reactors (also called nuclear facilities or nuclear installations) used for research, development, education and training. They also produce neutrons and radioisotopes that are used in many fields, including industry, medicine and agriculture. More than 200 research reactors operate in over 50 countries around the world.

In order to benefit from these peaceful, productive uses, nuclear facilities must be kept secure and protected from theft or sabotage. This infosheet introduces these uses, related security concepts and relevant WINS resources.
