Facilitating the Engagement of Young Professionals in Nuclear Security

The coming decades are likely to see an abundance and a wide range of opportunities for employment in the nuclear sector. Young professionals will play a significant role as future leaders, decision makers, policy implementers, workforce and nuclear operators in the evolving nuclear sector and new challenging world.

Engagement with young professionals in nuclear security needs to be inclusive, diverse and intense to assure sufficient quality and quantity of nuclear security personnel: The nuclear renaissance, combined with new nuclear technologies, will require new professionals.

WINS has embarked on a project to address the opportunities and challenges in incorporating young professionals in the nuclear security field. This report first summarises the research approach, then analyses the topics covered, and finally provides actionable next steps to continue unleashing the potential of young professionals in nuclear security by bringing them together through different structured interactions under this initiative.
