WINS is delighted to announce the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Atomic Energy Council (AEC) of Uganda to establish cooperation in support of nuclear security capacity development and knowledge exchange.
WINS and AEC will work together to strengthen nuclear security knowledge, competencies and professional networks in Uganda and across the region. The agreement provides a framework for collaboration in several key areas of mutual interest, including professional development, advancing gender equality and addressing emerging security challenges.
Natharius Nimbashabira, Acting Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of AEC, and Lars van Dassen, Executive Director of WINS, signed the agreement on 14 September 2026 at the IAEA General Conference.
“Strong and sustainable nuclear security depends on competent professionals, effective institutions, and a culture of continuous learning,” said Mr van Dassen. “Through this agreement, we look forward to supporting Uganda’s nuclear security objectives, strengthening professional development opportunities, and facilitating the exchange of knowledge and good practices both within the country and across the region.”
“This MoU with WINS represents an important step in strengthening Uganda’s nuclear security capacity through structured knowledge exchange and technical collaboration,” said Mr Natharius Nimbashabira. “As AEC continues to build the human and institutional capacity needed to for the nuclear industry, this partnership will provide our personnel with access to global best practices, specialised training, and a network of expertise that will enhance our national nuclear security regime, and thus contributing to a more secure and sustainable nuclear future for Uganda and the region.”
