WINS and the Rwanda Atomic Energy Board (RAEB) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to facilitate cooperation to promote nuclear security and capacity building in the field.
Under the MoU, the organisations will work together to address evolving nuclear security challenges through knowledge exchange and promotion of best practices. The MoU also emphasises support for training and professional development initiatives to build human capacity and institutional expertise in nuclear and radioactive material management.
“This memorandum of understanding reflects a shared commitment to strengthening nuclear security as a foundation for the peaceful use of nuclear science and technology,” said WINS Executive Director Lars van Dassen.
“Through this partnership, we are investing in people, institutions, and international cooperation to ensure the secure and responsible management of nuclear and other radioactive materials. By advancing capacity building, research, professional exchange, and joint initiatives in areas such as cybersecurity and insider threat mitigation, we are also reinforcing Rwanda’s role as an active contributor to global nuclear security efforts and the broader African nuclear security architecture.”
“The signing of this MoU between the Rwanda Atomic Energy Board and the World Institute for Nuclear Security marks an important step in strengthening nuclear security in Rwanda and across Africa. Through this partnership, we are reinforcing our commitment to the safe, secure, and peaceful use of nuclear technology. It also opens new opportunities for capacity building, knowledge exchange, and professional certification for our experts. We are particularly proud to advance inclusive participation of women and youth in this critical field. Together, we are building a strong foundation for a secure and sustainable nuclear future,” said Dr Fidele Ndahayo, Chief Executive Officer of RAEB.
