WINS’ Executive Director Lars van Dassen recently led a visit to the Serbian Radiation and Nuclear Safety and Security Directorate, the country’s radiation and nuclear safety regulator (SRBATOM).
During the visit he met with SRBATOM Director Slađan Velinov to discuss the potential for future cooperation following the end of Serbia’s 35-year moratorium on nuclear construction in late 2024. Mr van Dassen briefed the director on WINS’ activities to support international nuclear security. Mr Velinov noted that SRBATOM is looking to expand its network of international partners, and the two sides agreed there were several interesting areas for collaboration to be considered.
“As Serbia considers new nuclear projects, it is essential that nuclear security is intentionally embedded as the foundation of that development,” said Mr van Dassen.
