Short Training Course Foundation

This short training course covers the fundamental basics of nuclear security. The course will include interactive texts, case studies, exercises and short videos by subject matter experts on their areas of expertise.

WHO THIS MODULE IS FOR

The course brings together small cohorts of learners that start and finish the course within an estimated eight-week cycle. Learners will be encouraged to interact with each other through discussions of course material and a peer-reviewed project in addition to completing an end-of-course test.

OVERVIEW

The objective of this training course is to set out the foundations of nuclear security: at the international level through the framework of international instruments, international organisations and international initiatives; at the national level through the legal and regulatory framework for nuclear security and the best practices that have been identified by competent authorities involved in nuclear security; and at the operational level through organisations (licensees/licence holders/duty holders/operators) and their implementation of nuclear security systems and measures to address the threats and reduce the risk arising from malicious acts involving nuclear and other radioactive materials, associated facilities and associated activities.

Learners complete the course over an eight-week period as part of a cohort. You may select the course start date and language on the application form.

Applications for scholarships are open to all WINS Members and the selection of eligible learners is at WINS’ discretion.

After you successfully complete the course requirements, a digital progression badge will be issued to you. Your digital credential will show the criteria for earning it and achievements for your learning programme. As a badge holder you will be able to share your digital credential with others, so they too can recognise your accomplishments. 

CERTIFICATION

After completing this short training course, you will have a solid foundation to continue your nuclear security training with a WINS Academy Certification course. You may continue with a certification in the fundamentals or a specialisation.
