The four-unit programme and the examination are offered in English.
This module is designed for all individuals who need to know about the fundamentals of nuclear security programme management to understand the nuclear security requirements for the projects and activities that take place at a nuclear facility. It aims to enhance the understanding of professionals who interact with the nuclear security department, such as regulators, nuclear safety managers, operations and engineering managers, project managers and senior management. It will familiarise learners with the stakeholders, terminology, best practices and considerations for maintaining nuclear security systems and measures within the nuclear security plan that result in effective risk reduction throughout the lifecycle of a nuclear facility.
This module is designed to highlight the many considerations that contribute to effectively managing a nuclear security programme and sets out the foundations of nuclear security programme management at the international level through the framework of international instruments, international organisations and international initiatives. It covers nuclear security programme management at the national level describing the national framework and responsibility of the State to identify, understand and manage the threats to nuclear material. It considers the responsibilities of the regulator, to create the design basis threat (DBT) and to ensure that licensee’s comply with the regulatory arrangements in place for the State. It also considers the licensee’s responsibilities for nuclear security programme management and describes and discusses the complex and the aspects that have to be considered for effective security management at a nuclear facility by the Licensee not least because the range of potential threats (physical and cyber) are becoming more complex.
