We maintain an active publishing programme to keep our members informed and up-to-date on Nuclear Security issues. Our most important publishing efforts focus on our International Best Practice Guides (BPGs), but we also produce many other documents as well—from annual reports and strategy documents to thought-provoking Special Publications.
WINS supports the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) objectives and guidance. Wherever possible, our publications use the same terminology as that found in the IAEA Nuclear Security Series Publications. To access the IAEA Nuclear Security Series Publications, please click on this link.
We publish a detailed Annual Report that describes our accomplishments, the results of our annual membership questionnaire, our financial performance, and our plans for the coming year.
We publish well-researched, thought-provoking Special Publications that take an in-depth look at specific challenges in the Nuclear Security Industry.
We publish a series of Modules that use a problem- based approach to learning that is practitioner-focused, hands-on, cross-functional and immediately useful. The certification programme lead to a certification by WINS as a Certified Nuclear Security Professional.
The WINS International Best Practice Guides
Our BPGs offer practical, hands-on information on topics dealing with Nuclear Security Management. Each Guide also includes two Appendices that provide self-assessment questions and a maturity scale ranging from poor to outstanding. The appendices enable stakeholders to benchmark how well they and their organisation are doing in a particular area of security management and to understand what needs to be done to move to the next level.
The process of creating the Guides follows a Core Improvement Cycle.
First a subject matter expert with experience in the field is commissioned to research and write a Guide in English on a specific topic. Second, a Workshop is often held on the topic to obtain suggestions, insights and feedback from our members. Once the final draft is complete, the Guide undergoes Peer Review; members are also invited to give their feedback on our website. Finally, the Guide is sent to a professional technical editor and then translated into nine additional languages.
Our International Best Practice Guides are organised in 5 groupings:
1. Nuclear Security Programme Organisation
2. Managing and Communicating Security Information
3. People in Nuclear Security
4. Implementing Security Measures
5. Security of Radioactive Sources
