4.1 Implementing Security by Design at Nuclear Facilities

WINS 27 Mar 2019

This WINS International Best Practice Guide addresses the concept of security by design, which is based on the idea that security should play an integral role in the design process–similar to that of safety–long before construction begins.

Security by design is a risk-informed approach that acknowledges that although few facilities can be made intrinsically secure, designing for defence-in-depth will go a long way toward achieving such a result.

This guide explains why it is important to implement security by design and some challenges that organisations might face when doing so. It also presents a step-by-step process that organisations can follow when designing security into their facility, as well as some suggestions for interfacing with the regulatory body.
